Privacy Policy Noema Browser Extension Version 1.1 — June 2026 This policy applies to the Noema Browser Extension only.
1. Overview
The Noema Browser Extension is an optional companion to the Noema desktop application. Its sole function is to extract the readable content of the current browser tab and send it to the Noema application running locally on your device. The extension does not operate independently. It requires the Noema desktop application to be installed and running.

3. What the Extension Does
When you trigger the extension by clicking its icon in the browser toolbar, it performs the following actions: Captures the full HTML of the currently active browser tab; Processes the content locally (using the Readability.js library on article pages, or direct extraction on other pages); Transmits the captured HTML to the Noema desktop application running on localhost on your device. The captured content includes any content visible on the page, including AI assistant conversation threads (such as ChatGPT or Claude) if you trigger the extension on those pages. Capture is triggered by you clicking the extension button; the extension does not monitor or capture pages passively and does not run in the background.
4. What Data We Do Not Collect
The extension does not transmit page content to our servers or any remote server operated by Lightweb.it. Specifically: No page content is sent to our servers or any third-party server; No browsing history is recorded or transmitted; No analytics or telemetry data is collected; No cookies or persistent identifiers are used. Captured page content may contain personal data; it is transmitted only to your local Noema installation and is not sent to any remote server operated by Lightweb.it. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to capture and store content from the pages you visit.
5. Data Flow
The data flow is strictly local: Browser tab content → Readability.js (local) → localhost → Noema desktop app The destination is exclusively http://localhost — the Noema application running on the same machine as the browser. No data leaves your device.
6. Permissions
The extension requests the following browser permissions: activeTab — to read the content of the currently active tab, only when activated by the user scripting — to inject the Readability.js content script into the active tab host_permissions: http://localhost:11420/* — to communicate with the Noema desktop application No other permissions are requested. The extension cannot access tabs you have not explicitly activated it on. The extension captures the active page's HTML; the Chrome Web Store and Firefox AMO data-collection declarations for this extension reflect this capability, and you should review the store listing's data-safety disclosures.
7. Third-Party Libraries
The extension uses Readability.js, an open-source library developed by Mozilla Foundation, to extract readable content from web pages. This library runs entirely within your browser and does not transmit any data externally. Readability.js is available at: github.com/mozilla/readability
8. GDPR
Since the extension does not process personal data on external servers, the GDPR obligations applicable to data controllers do not apply to the extension's core operation. If you use the Noema desktop application in conjunction with this extension, the privacy policy of the Noema desktop application applies to data processed within the application. That policy is available at: noema.tools/Noema-App/Privacy
9. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated if the extension's functionality changes. The current version is always available at noema.tools/Noema-Extension/Privacy and on the Chrome Web Store listing.
